Located at the western end of Glen Lyon, within close proximity to the cities of Stirling and Perth, Stuchd an Lochain rewards you with a great sense of remoteness for very little effort by Munro standards – it’s a great introduction to the Scottish hills.
Our day will begin with a gentle warm up on a well maintained land rover track alongside Loch an Daimh, before ascending steeply up the rocky hill path to gain the ridge. From here, we traverse westwards and make our way around the edge of the magnificent Coire an Lochain. The corrie is absolutely stunning; with steep cliffs dropping down from our now visible Munro summit towards the perfectly circular shaped Lochan nan Cat.
Eventually, we reach the dramatically positioned summit cairn of Stuchd an Lochain and are rewarded for our efforts with the fabulous views that go on for miles. From Glencoe and Rannoch Moor to our west and the Lawers mountain range to our east, there is an endless supply of breath-taking scenery to admire.
